CHRIST CHURCH TONBRIDGE Mission Statement
‘Being disciples together – making disciples together.’
These are our aims:
FAITH
We encourage a personal relationship with God our Father through Jesus by the power of the Spirit.
Scripture says about faith: ‘Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain
of what we do not see….and without faith it is impossible to please God.’
(Hebrews 11: 1 and 6.)
WORSHIP
We encourage all members to glorify God by the way we live our lives, by prayer and Bible study and by meeting together to express our adoration and love of God through His Spirit.
Scripture says about worship: ‘In view of God’s mercy, offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – which is your spiritual worship.’ ‘Let the
Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your
hearts to God.’ (Romans 12: 1 and Colossians 3: 16)
DISCIPLESHIP
We encourage commitment to one another and growth through prayer, teaching and fellowship and the development of the ministry of all believers through the gifts of the Spirit.
Scripture says about discipleship: ‘It was Jesus who gave some to be apostles, some
to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to
prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built
up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and
become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.’
(Ephesians 4: 11 – 13)
UNITY
We encourage closer working relationships with the Christian church both in our town and in the wider world.
Jesus prayed about unity: ‘I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they
may be one as we are one. I in them and you in me. May they be brought to
complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as
you have loved me.’ (John 17: 22 – 23)
MISSION
We encourage all members to show the love of Jesus by word and action in the places where God has put us.
Jesus says about mission: ‘All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the Name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I
Have commanded you.’ (Matthew 28: 18 – 20)
