WORKING WITH PEOPLE WITH A LEARNING DISABILITY AND WITH THEIR FAMILIES We would like to thank Christ Church for allowing us to use the upstairs hall and kitchen to run some of our clubs for adults and children. If you would like to know more about the services we provide or want to join our team as a volunteer please visit our website or ring us on 01732 360033
Our Mission Statement:
Our ServicesHelpline / Family Advice We offer a free and confidential advice service, providing information and support for people with a learning disability and their families / carers. This service does not provide counselling or undertake the work of social workers; however we will help people to contact other organisations that provide this service. After School Club We are currently running a 3 month pilot after school club. We use our new people carrier to pick the children up from school at the end of the day and take them to the club which lasts for 2hours, where they can take part in arts and crafts and sports. FriendzFriendz is a social group for young adults aged 18-30. It runs fortnightly throughout the year. There is no set day or time as activities vary. It may be a pub evening, bowling, a meal out, a shopping trip or an evening at the theatre. Holiday Friendz Holiday Friendz is a group for young adults aged 18-30, which runs during the college holidays. It’s an opportunity to keep busy during the holidays, to make new friends and to experience a wide range of activities. Golden Flag Golden Flag is a social group for adults aged 25 and over. It is based in Tonbridge and runs every fortnight on a Monday evening 7pm-9pm. This group does a variety of activities including discos, karaoke, pub evenings and quiz nights. Fun Club (Hayesbrook School) We run a Fun Club for children aged 8-17 years old during the Easter, Summer, Christmas and half term school holidays. The children can take part in arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor sports, dance and music workshops or join us on one of our day trips out. We always keep our staff ratio high to ensure a safe environment which includes 1:1 support should any children require this due to behavioural or physical needs. 14-17 Club (Hayesbrook School) This club runs alongside Fun Club, during the school holidays and half terms, but has more age appropriate and challenging activities for the slightly older members. It is a chance for the older children to stretch their minds by doing what they want to do. It also makes the transition into the older Friendz group easier, as it would not make it such a big step from Fun Club. 16-18 Club (Sunrise Centre, Southborough) We offer a Saturday club once a month for young adults aged 16-18 who can display challenging behavior. It is held at The Sunrise Centre, which has great facilities including a soft play room, sensory room and a large garden.
Splash! Splash is a fortnightly swimming club for both adults and childrenwith learning disabilities plus their family and friends. It’s held on Saturday afternoons based at Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre. We have the pool to ourselves and we provide music, balls and inflatables.
Holidays This year we are very excited to be running a pilot scheme hopefully taking both the Friendz group and Fun Club on separate weekend holidays. It is a great opportunity for young people to get away and offers parents and carers respite.
Travel Training We provide travel training for individuals over 16 years old who want to become independent in using public transport. This could enable access to education, employment or leisure opportunities.
Understanding Relationships We often run a series of workshops for our young adults and others who would like to know more about relationships. These workshops can be tailored for individual groups.
